English charm and California ease converge in this Marin County home, reimagined through a thoughtful full-home refresh. Our clients, the wife originally from the Cotswolds, sought a way to breathe new life into their space while honoring the heritage and sensibility she carried with her.
The connection was immediate. With my deep familial ties to England and frequent trips to the country, this project became a shared exploration of two places we both hold dear. Designing the home felt as personal as it was collaborative; rooted in story, memory, and a love of layered, livable interiors.
Rather than a full remodel, the focus centered on reworking the kitchen and family room to create a true heart of the home. We introduced a generous, multifunctional kitchen island to bridge the two spaces and offer ample storage, seating, and a natural gathering point for daily life and entertaining alike. Thoughtfully selected furnishings throughout the home helped further brighten and unify each room.
Traditional floral motifs, a nod to our client’s English roots, were incorporated with an earthy yet vibrant palette inspired by California’s relaxed beauty. Our clients already had some incredible art and antiques, including watercolours of the English countryside, and delicate works featuring fruits and botanicals. Color, texture, and pattern work together to strike a balance between old-world charm and fresh, modern living, resulting in a space that feels like home for our client in every sense.
“Sara was a pleasure to work with, I felt she understood right away what my vision was. She created an English ‘modern country’ look that I just love. Her color and fabric choices were fabulous, creating an inviting interior that works so well with our California indoor/outdoor lifestyle” - Kate
We used Cotswold limestone and California-sourced wood for the fireplace, serving as a bridge between the two aesthetics.
Furniture was primarily sourced from the USA, but we upholstered pieces in English fabrics.
